About Us
The Singapore Pastoral Institute has been in existence for many years mainly conducting courses on the Bible, church teachings, pastoral training programmes, catechetical workshops etc. It began in 1978 under the direction of the then Fr Nicholas Chia (our Archbishop).
The Institute was housed within the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Premises in Holland Road for the first 12 years. Many Franciscan sisters helped to run the institute as admin assistants to Fr Chia.
In 1990 the Institute shifted to the Archdiocesan Religious Education Centre at 222, Queen Street. This building became available when Catholic High School was moved to Bishan. In 1991 the Singapore Pastoral Institute directorship passed to Fr Eugene Vaz.
The Institute merged with the Catechetical Office of the Catechetical Commission, and the Biblical Apostolate in September 1992. Since July 2000 the SPI has been at its present location at the Catholic Archdiocesan Education Centre, 2 Highland Road in the Upper Serangoon area.
